Dark pool share: Off-exchange volume was quiet at 0.5× its norm
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Large players were quiet in this name today. The share (48.0%) may look normal, but the absolute size behind it was thin.

What it means: Option positioning is balanced but skewed toward downside protection—put-to-call ratio sits at 0.33 (call-heavy on paper), yet today's volume flow reversed sharply to 3.99 puts per call, signaling defensive hedging despite bullish headlines. Dark-pool activity is muted and normal (47% of 20-day volume), with short share 6.9 points BELOW the stock's own average, suggesting no institutional accumulation or panic selling—just structural trading.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCEBrokerages rate Coeur Mining a 'Moderate Buy' on consensus
Analyst optimism clashes with today's heavy put-buying (3.99× normal put-to-call volume flow), indicating options traders are hedging upside bets rather than chasing the 'Moderate Buy' call.
Defense World
⚡ DIVERGENCEAnalyst raises Coeur Mining to 'Strong Buy' with $26 target—30% upside forecast
The $26 target sits well above the $23 call-strike wall and $18.50 max-pain level, yet options volume today tilted heavily to puts (3.99 ratio), suggesting traders are not betting on the analyst's bullish case.
Seeking Alpha
⚡ DIVERGENCECoeur Mining and Hecla Mining jump 13% on Treasury buyback tailwind for precious metals
Despite the 13% rally, new option positioning data is absent, and standing put-to-call flow (3.99 today) remains defensive—money is not yet locking in upside via call purchases, only hedging.

Ontario gold exploration extends mineralization trend to 560 metres
Exploration upside is priced into analyst targets but not yet reflected in options hedging—put volume remains elevated despite the discovery, suggesting traders are not yet convinced the find moves the needle on near-term earnings.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
