Dark pool share: Off-exchange volume was quiet at 0.6× its norm
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Large players were quiet in this name that day. The share (27.0%) may look normal, but the absolute size behind it was thin.

What it means: DOCU shows a defensive posture: traders hold significantly more downside insurance (puts) than upside calls, and off-exchange volume is running well below normal, suggesting institutional activity has cooled. The stock sits $4 above its maximum-pain level, with modest squeeze pressure.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCEDocuSign Pitched as a Strong Growth Pick
News frames DOCU as a growth winner, but options traders are holding 22% more puts than calls and off-exchange volume is half its normal level—a mismatch between bullish narrative and cautious positioning.

DocuSign Compared Head-to-Head with BTCS
The comparison offers no directional signal; DOCU's own options market shows defensive lean (more puts than calls) with no fresh positioning data to suggest institutional conviction either way.

DocuSign CEO Sells 26,250 Shares Under Pre-Set Plan
CEO selling under a pre-arranged 10b5-1 plan is routine and neutral on its own; the real signal is that options traders are holding elevated downside hedges (puts 22% above calls), suggesting they are not reassured by management's recent stock moves.

⚡ DIVERGENCEDocuSign Stock Surges 50.8% Over Three Months
Despite the 50.8% three-month rally, options traders are holding more puts than calls and off-exchange volume is half normal—suggesting the move has attracted defensive hedging rather than fresh institutional accumulation.

⚡ DIVERGENCEDocuSign Highlighted as a Top Long-Term Momentum Stock
News touts DOCU as a momentum winner, yet options show a defensive tilt (more puts than calls) and institutional off-exchange activity is well below normal—a classic divergence between bullish narrative and cautious money positioning.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
