Dark pool share: 42% off-exchange — 9pp below the market
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Most of the day cleared on the lit market — either there was nothing to hide, or the large players sat out. Short share of the off-exchange piece: 52% vs a 48% norm.

What it means: EME shows balanced but slightly defensive positioning: traders hold more downside hedges (put-to-call ratio 0.68 on options flow, 2.96 on volume) than upside bets, and off-exchange volume is running 10% above normal with a modest short lean (51.7% vs. 47.8% norm), suggesting institutional caution despite the data-center tailwind narrative.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCEEMCOR vs. Granite: Which construction stock wins in the AI data-center race?
Money is hedging more than buying: traders are stacking downside protection (2.96x more puts than calls in today's flow) even as the growth narrative stays positive, signaling skepticism about valuation at current levels.

Algert Global cuts EMCOR stake by 12.7% in Q2
Insider trimming aligns with the money's defensive lean: off-exchange traders are moving volume quietly (41.6% dark-pool share, 1.1x normal) with a short bias, consistent with smart money taking chips off the table.

⚡ DIVERGENCEAn $11.5 billion ETF bets on data-center contractors but faces a brutal week of losses
The money is conflicted: strong off-exchange activity (1.1x normal volume) and a neutral dark-pool regime suggest institutions are still positioning, but the put-heavy flow (2.96x call volume) and low squeeze score (5) indicate they're bracing for downside, not chasing the ETF's bullish thesis.

⚡ DIVERGENCEEMCOR's mechanical construction surges 31% but margins face pressure
The money is pricing in margin risk: despite the 31% revenue beat, traders are holding more hedges than bullish bets (put-to-call 0.68 on open interest), and the max pain sits at $790 (below current $740.17), suggesting the market expects consolidation or a pullback.

⚡ DIVERGENCEEMCOR among Q2 earnings winners, but the rally may be fading
Money is not confirming the earnings pop: off-exchange traders are active (1.1x normal volume) but leaning short (51.7% short share vs. 47.8% norm), and the put-to-call ratio (0.68 open interest) is defensive, suggesting the earnings beat was a sell-the-news event rather than a catalyst for further upside.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
