Dark pool share: Off-exchange volume ran 1.4× its norm
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Activity clearly picked up, but the short share at 69% vs a 61% norm is unremarkable — too early to call it accumulation or unwinding. Whether it persists is the tell.

What it means: Option traders are leaning bullish on NEOG, with nearly six times as many calls as puts in recent flow and standing positions favoring upside. However, dark-pool activity shows elevated short selling (68.7% of off-exchange volume vs. a 61.1% norm), suggesting institutional players may be hedging or trimming positions quietly—a mixed signal that leaves conviction uncertain.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCENeogen Q1 earnings beat estimates on revenue and profit
The earnings beat aligns with option traders' call-heavy lean, but dark-pool short activity running 7.6 points above the stock's own norm suggests institutions are using the rally to reduce exposure off the public eye.

Neogen Q1 2027 earnings call transcript released
No new option positions opened around the call, and standing call-to-put ratio remains bullish, but the lack of fresh positioning suggests traders are waiting for more clarity before committing new capital.

⚡ DIVERGENCENeogen cites improved execution and product strength in Q1
Call-heavy option flow supports the upbeat tone, but elevated dark-pool short selling (7.6 points above norm) indicates sophisticated traders are hedging or exiting on strength, not accumulating.

⚡ DIVERGENCENeogen earnings per share and revenue both beat consensus
Option traders are positioned for upside with a 6-to-1 call-to-put skew, but dark-pool volume running 45% above the stock's 20-day norm—with short selling elevated—reveals institutions moving size away from the public book, suggesting caution beneath the surface.

⚡ DIVERGENCENeogen announces Q1 fiscal 2027 results with 8.1% core growth
Call-heavy option positioning and low squeeze pressure align with a constructive narrative, but dark-pool short activity elevated 7.6 points above the stock's norm signals institutional hedging or profit-taking, not conviction buying.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
