Dark pool share: 42% off-exchange — 9pp below the market
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Most of the day cleared on the lit market — either there was nothing to hide, or the large players sat out. Short share of the off-exchange piece: 67% vs a 58% norm.

What it means: OLLI shows defensive positioning: put-heavy option flow (6.13× normal put-to-call ratio on volume) and elevated short activity in dark pools (67.4% vs. 58.3% norm, +9.1 point deviation) suggest institutions are hedging or trimming, not accumulating. No new large option positions opened yesterday, leaving the signal incomplete but leaning cautious.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCEDeutsche Bank builds $1.28M stake in Ollie's Bargain Outlet
Deutsche Bank's equity purchase does not align with the options market's defensive lean: put hedges are flowing at 6× normal volume while dark-pool short activity sits 9 points above this stock's own average, suggesting institutions are protecting downside rather than building bullish exposure.
Defense World
Analysts weigh Q2 earnings expectations for Ollie's Bargain Outlet
Analyst estimates carry neutral tone, but the options market is already braced for volatility: put-to-call ratio of 6.13 on daily volume and short positioning elevated in dark pools indicate traders are hedging earnings risk, not betting on an upside surprise.
Zacks Investment Research
Ollie's stock drops 3.7% as GF Score holds at 79
The price decline aligns with defensive option positioning (put-heavy flow, elevated short activity in dark pools), but the lack of new large option positions opening suggests this is consolidation rather than capitulation.

Jobs report looms; Fed decision ahead
Macro headlines are neutral for OLLI specifically, but the stock's own options market is already defensive (put-heavy, short-biased dark-pool activity), suggesting traders are hedging broader economic risk rather than reacting to this news.
Schaeffers Research
Ollie's earnings growth outlook questioned; buy signal unclear
Analyst skepticism on earnings growth matches the options market's defensive posture: put hedges are 6× normal volume and dark-pool short activity is elevated, signaling traders expect disappointment or are protecting against it.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
