Dark pool share: Off-exchange volume was quiet at 0.5× its norm
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Large players were quiet in this name today. The share (48.0%) may look normal, but the absolute size behind it was thin.

What it means: Reddit's options market is heavily skewed toward downside protection—put holders outnumber call holders by 28% in open positions, and off-exchange volume is shifting to distribution mode (short share 63% vs. the stock's 60% norm), suggesting insiders and large holders are quietly trimming. The stock sits $7 below max pain, leaving room for either a bounce or a test of the $143 support floor.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCECramer calls Reddit 'ridiculously cheap' despite 30% year-to-date decline
While Cramer argues the valuation is extreme, the options market is heavily weighted toward downside hedges (put-to-call ratio 1.28), and off-exchange activity shows distribution rather than accumulation, suggesting smart money is not convinced.

Reddit director sells 5,128 shares worth $820k as stock declines
The director's sale at $159.92 (above the current $153 price) aligns with the distribution regime in dark pools, reinforcing that insiders are exiting rather than accumulating on weakness.

Google's ad revenue surge raises competitive pressure on Reddit and Meta
The competitive threat is real, but the options market already reflects caution—put positioning is elevated and off-exchange volume is in distribution mode, so the market has already priced in advertising headwinds.

⚡ DIVERGENCEReddit's user growth and monetization gains position it to outpace Pinterest and Snap
Despite bullish operational news, the options market remains defensive (put-heavy, 1.28 ratio) and off-exchange activity is in distribution, indicating that growth optimism has not yet shifted institutional positioning.

Reddit's ChatGPT citation collapse signals risk to marketer engagement
This operational headwind aligns with the defensive options positioning (elevated puts, distribution in dark pools), confirming that the market is already pricing in risks to Reddit's ad-monetization story.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
