Dark pool share: 40% off-exchange — 9pp below the market
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Most of the day cleared on the lit market — either there was nothing to hide, or the large players sat out. Short share of the off-exchange piece: 51% vs a 58% norm.

What it means: SJM shows a call-heavy lean in both standing and traded positions, with minimal squeeze pressure and price sitting $3.77 below the max-pain level. Off-exchange activity is running below the stock's own 20-day norm, and short positioning within that dark-pool volume is lighter than the name's average—a neutral backdrop with no fresh positioning data to signal institutional conviction.
News vs the money
Four packaged-food stocks, four different dividend stories
Options traders are leaning bullish (more calls than puts), but no new positions opened recently, and the stock sits below max pain with low squeeze pressure—suggesting cautious positioning rather than conviction.

Smucker pitched as a strong growth stock
Call-heavy options lean aligns with bullish framing, but the absence of fresh large positions and low squeeze score suggest the market is not rushing to bet on it.

⚡ DIVERGENCESmucker reiterated as a Buy with strong Q1 results
News is constructive, and options show a call-heavy bias, but no new open interest was added and dark-pool volume is below normal—the bullish tone is not backed by fresh institutional accumulation.

⚡ DIVERGENCESmucker carries dividend-cut warning signs like Campbell's did
Options traders are positioned for upside (call-heavy), but the stock is trading below max pain and squeeze pressure is minimal—the market is not pricing in dividend-cut risk, or it is pricing it in calmly.

Smucker down 7.7% since last earnings—what's next?
Call-heavy positioning suggests traders expect recovery, but no new large positions have opened, and the stock sits below max pain with low squeeze potential—the weakness may persist without fresh buying pressure.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
