Dark pool share: Off-exchange volume was quiet at 0.4× its norm
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Large players were quiet in this name today. The share (45.3%) may look normal, but the absolute size behind it was thin.

What it means: ZIM shows defensive positioning with put-heavy hedging (1.14 put-to-call ratio) and below-average off-exchange activity (0.44x normal volume), suggesting institutional caution despite the earnings beat and takeover backdrop. Dark-pool short activity is running 5 points below the stock's own norm, indicating no aggressive accumulation off the public book.
News vs the money
Israeli pushback threatens ZIM's $4.2 billion takeover deal
News of deal risk aligns with the money: put hedging is elevated (1.14 ratio), off-exchange volume is subdued, and short activity is below normal—institutions are protecting downside, not betting on deal completion.

⚡ DIVERGENCEAnalyst calls ZIM a portfolio addition after recent gains
The analyst pitch for accumulation conflicts with the money: dark-pool volume is well below normal (0.44x), and put hedging dominates (1.14 ratio), suggesting institutions are not quietly buying into strength.
Zacks Investment Research
⚡ DIVERGENCEZIM flagged as a fast-paced mover for value hunters
The value-stock narrative clashes with positioning: put-to-call ratio of 1.14 and subdued off-exchange accumulation (0.44x norm) suggest smart money is hedging, not loading up on a bargain.
Zacks Investment Research
⚡ DIVERGENCEZIM among top stocks to buy after crushing earnings
Despite the earnings beat, money signals remain defensive: put hedging is elevated, off-exchange volume is weak (0.44x normal), and short activity is below the stock's own baseline—no post-earnings accumulation visible.
Zacks Investment Research
⚡ DIVERGENCEZIM lands on Zacks Strong Buy value list for late August
The Strong Buy rating conflicts with the money: put hedging dominates (1.14 ratio), off-exchange volume is 56% below normal, and short activity is suppressed—no institutional conviction visible beneath the rating.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
