Short share of that
41.6% (norm 48%)
Dark pool share: Off-exchange volume ran 1.9× its norm — and only 42% vs a 48% norm of it was short
Off-exchange prints never touch the public book, so they move size without moving the quote. That is the point of using them. Volume rose while the short share stayed low, meaning most of that extra size was not sell-side. This is what quiet accumulation looks like on the tape.

What it means: Institutional buyers are quietly accumulating NVDL shares off-exchange at nearly double their normal daily pace, with short-selling activity running well below the fund's typical level—a classic stealth accumulation pattern. However, options positioning leans heavily defensive (put-to-call ratio 0.49, meaning calls outnumber puts by 2:1), and the squeeze score is low, suggesting limited near-term volatility pressure despite the accumulation.
News vs the money
⚡ DIVERGENCENvidia Beats Earnings as AI Momentum Stays Strong
News celebrates Nvidia's earnings strength, but money signals show cautious positioning: institutions are buying quietly off-exchange, yet options traders are stacking defensive puts relative to calls, suggesting they're hedging upside rather than betting on it.
ETF Trends
NVDL Underperformed Its 2x Promise, Delivering Only 17% vs Nvidia's 22% Gain
The underperformance story aligns with money signals: low squeeze pressure and balanced options flow suggest the market is not expecting a sharp reversal that would make leverage pay off.

⚡ DIVERGENCENvidia Poised for New Highs; NVDL Positioned to Benefit
Bullish narrative clashes with money signals: while institutions are accumulating quietly, options traders are net-long calls (bullish lean) but the squeeze score is very low, meaning there's little forced-buying pressure to drive the breakout the story predicts.

Leveraged ETF Traders Chase Fortunes; NVDL Up Only 11.5% Year-to-Date
The cautionary tone matches the money: low squeeze pressure and defensive options positioning confirm that leverage is not delivering outsized gains, and institutional accumulation off-exchange suggests smart money is positioning defensively rather than aggressively.

⚡ DIVERGENCENVDL Breakout Setup Ahead of Late-August Earnings
Bullish breakout story conflicts with money signals: institutions are buying quietly (stealth accumulation), but options traders are heavily call-biased with very low squeeze pressure, meaning the market is pricing in calm, not a violent move higher.

What is a “divergence”?
A divergence is when the news narrative and the institutional money flow point in opposite directions — a bearish headline while large call premium is bought, or heavy dark-pool selling under a bullish story. It signals the crowd and the desks may disagree.
How to read these numbers
Dark-pool volume — The share of trading executed off-exchange, at wholesalers and dark pools. About half of all US share volume prints there on an ordinary day, so the level by itself says almost nothing. What carries information is the distance from this name’s own recent norm, and whether the off-exchange size ran above its usual.
Off-exchange short share — How much of that off-exchange volume was sold short. The median across all listed names is about 49%, because wholesalers filling retail buy orders sell short and cover later. A reading near half is plumbing, not a bearish vote — compare it to the same name’s own 20-day norm.
Max pain — The price where the most options expire worthless — positioning often gravitates toward it near expiry.
Call wall / Put floor — Strikes with the heaviest call/put open interest — they often act as short-term resistance and support.
Put/Call ratio — Below ~0.7 leans bullish (more calls); above ~1 leans defensive (more puts).
